Singapore Airlines' low-cost carrier, Scoot, is set to launch its first-ever flight to Melaka International Airport by the end of September. The announcement was made by Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, the state tourism, heritage, art, and culture committee chairman, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. He also revealed plans for Scoot to operate six daily flights from the airport in the near future.

A Boost for Local Tourism

Each flight is expected to bring over 100 passengers to Melaka, providing a significant boost to the state’s tourism sector. Datuk Abdul Razak highlighted that the state government has successfully secured a long-term partnership with Scoot Airlines, ensuring sustained benefits for the region.

This development comes after a period of dormancy at the airport, which saw a halt in commercial flights in September last year. The previous service providers had ceased operations due to low passenger numbers and high operational costs.

Expanding Horizons with New Destinations

In March, Scoot announced plans to connect Singapore to six Southeast Asian destinations using its new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, starting in May. These routes include Koh Samui in Thailand and Sibu in Malaysia, as well as existing destinations like Hat Yai and Krabi in Thailand, and Kuantan and Miri in Malaysia.
